How to Bake Gospel Snacks
Don’t worry! This isn’t a recipe for cross-cookies, but rather a helpful method for average Christians to share our faith.
I don’t know about you, but when I was first learning how to share my faith, whenever my non-Christian friends showed any sign of spiritual hunger, I’d do one of two things:
1. Run back to the kitchen in fear.
2. Pounce with a full-blown spiritual buffet.
With the latter, my friends’ eyes would often glaze over, like the glaze I was trying to layer on my three course explanation on the nature of Christ!
John Chapman, author of Know and Tell the Gospel notes the two hardest elements of evangelism:
The courage to share the Gospel
To wisdom to know when to stop and entrust the results to God.
If we don’t seek God’s help to balance these, we may overwhelm our non-Christian friends with spiritual monologues instead of holding life-changing spiritual conversations. This is when baking Gospel snacks are so handy! Here’s Doug Pollocks’ definition from God Space:
Have you ever shared a Gospel snack with a friend before? You’d be surprised how helpful they are! If you’d like to get started give these a go:
Consider at least 3 ways that the Gospel has tangibly changed your life, and write down a 2 minute (max!) story on each.
Ask at lest one mature Christian friend for feedback and encouragement on your Gospel snacks.
Share one Gospel snack with at least one non-Christian in the next fortnight.
No idea how to start? Try:
“Hey, you know I‘m a Christian right? Well I‘m trying to grow in how I share my faith with others in a way that actually helps, so I‘ve been working on a 2 minute story on my faith journey. Is it ok if I share it with you? I‘d love to hear your thoughts!”
